 ALAN AS ART. Art and economics are inherently linked. As an artist, I must take into account supply, demand, and the flux and sway of the market in order to find a niche in which I can prosper. Alan Greenspan’s work, on the other hand, molds societies. He carves out his vision of America’s economic future, acting individually to affect society at large. In a bitter twist of irony, the artist becomes the mercenary economist and Alan Greenspan touches the souls of everyday people.
The mere image of Alan Greenspan, oddly enough, pleases the public. Walking into a room filled with Alans raises questions and eyebrows. Who is this man? Who is this artist? And why would someone paint him so many times?
Erin is currently earning her MFA at University of London, Goldsmith’s College in London, England. She graduated from the University of Virginia and continued there as an Aunspaugh Fellow, which is when she painted the Alan’s.
